YouTube announced that “It has now exceeds 200 million views a day on mobile, a 3x increase in 2010.”
In addition to this, YouTube also expanding its mobile content library for Android app. Beginning today, you’ll be able to watch official music videos through YouTube’s partner VEVO from artists like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kanye West and U2. The content comes from labels: EMI, UMG, and Sony, but not from Warner.
To watch these videos, mobile phone needs Android 2.2 (Froyo). The latest Android 2.3 devices, comes with YouTube native app pre-installed, you can also manually install it, search ‘YouTube’ in Android Market.
Also, several new features are launched to make it easier to discover and enjoy music videos on mobile:
- Music videos are now clearly marked with a “music note” badge
- While enjoying video you can read “artist bio”
- Discover more tracks from the same artist using “artist tracks” tab
- You’ll find similar cool bands on the “related artists” tab
The mobile ad market is growing fast and set to surpass $1 billion in the US in 2011.
Finally, YouTube partner videos will also now have pre-roll ads appear on the YouTube 2.0 app for Android. The ads are 15 seconds.
