YouTube iOS App Optimized for iPad, iPhone 5, Adds AirPlay Support; Gmail iOS App Gets ‘Multi Account, Time-saving’ Features

Google just push a series of updates — first up, YouTube app for iPad, iPhone 5 and iPod touch now at version: released on December 4 bring in a new look designed for the iPad and iPhone 5, enhanced AirPlay support, videos that start faster and play more smoothly, and improved accessibility with VoiceOver.

In addition, you can now tap YouTube logo to open guide of channels.

Google says that according to stats –more than 25 percent of all YouTube watching happens on mobile and YouTube app is the number 1 free app in the Apple’s App Store for two months since its release in September.

Secondly, the new Gmail app for iPhone and iPad version 2.0 also released today, comes with “a totally new look and feel, plus a bunch of improvements like profile pictures in messages, numerous new animations from swivels to transitions and infinite scrolling in the message lists,” informs Google.

The app adds many new time-saving features like being able to RSVP to Google Calendar invites as well as +1 and comment on Google+ posts directly from the app.

Google also added a feature “multiple account support,” that let users “now login to up to five Google Accounts from the menu and switch between them with a couple taps.”

Update 12/08: Google quitely announced that Send and archive, Quote selected text and Default reply to all graduate from Gmail Labs. In a G+ blog post, Google wrote;

“The option to add Send and archive and Default reply to all to compose and reply are now both available by default. These time-saving features are useful if you often send and then immediately archive or always reply to everyone.”

In addition, “Quote selected text’s graduation means that when you highlight text from an email you want to include in your reply, and then click reply, the compose template will be just what you selected,” google blogged.

Send and Archive feature allows Gmail customers to send a newly sent email directly to archives from both the compose and the reply screen. This has been enabled by default in the Google email Web interface.

Default reply to all is an extension, also now enabled by default, allows the user to automatically send a message out to everyone included in the conversation. More on this later.

Quote selected text feature that has now become a part of Gmail. Previously users had two options when replying to an email – show the replied to message or don’t. Now you can highlight a part of the text, click Reply and only the highlighted text will appear in the message.
