Xbox Preview Program Rebrands as Xbox Insider Program

In March of this year, Terry Myerson revealed Microsoft plans to merge the Xbox Preview Program with the Windows Insider Program, as it “doesn’t make sense for these to be separate”, he said.

Today, Emily Hanson made an announcement that the Xbox Preview Program is becoming the Xbox Insider Program. This new branding reflects, Microsoft’s “offering of opt-in opportunities for feedback on Game and App Previews alongside System Update previews.”

Along with the rebranding, rebuilt from the ground-up the updated “Xbox Preview Dashboard” is now sporting a new user interface, inspired by the New Xbox One Experience. The new UI makes it easier to find the right info and provide more robust feedback.

Next, it’s now more “personalized and give more relevant announcements, quests, and Insider content opportunities to get early access to select games and apps.”

The new prview also support multiple users on a console helping to participate and provide feedback.

All existing Xbox Preview members, as Microsoft said will get access to the new Xbox Insider Hub, “over the next few weeks.” Additionally, with Xbox Insider Hub, games will be able to try out games, apps, and other console experiences.

And, of course, the Xbox Insider Program will soon be open to all Xbox users enabling them to provide feedback directly from their Xbox One consoles, Hyrb said. Until now, those wishing to take part in the Xbox Preview Program, needed an invite, but no more the invitation is required.

Those with Xbox Preview Dashboard app installed and Xbox One console in Instant-on mode, will automatically update overnight. However, to get the update manually, check by going to My games and apps, and then looking at the updates section.

“Xbox system updates will currently be limited to those already testing them (not open to new members), as we still have a huge number of volunteers already doing a great job testing and providing feedback,” said Larry Hryb (better known as Major Nelson).
