Windows Live WiFi Beta Begins

Microsoft quietly has begun beta testing the Windows Live WiFi suite that the LiveSide.Net folks discovered back in May. The Windows Live Connection Center WiFi beta is now open. The latest Windows Live service includes a WiFi client, as well as a hot-spot locator. No word on when Microsoft hopes to release the final Live WiFi service. But the Techlog folks do include one interesting new piece of data: Vista compatibility (for the Live WiFi service) be added with RC1 (Release Candidate 1), currently scheduled for September 2006.

Windows Live Connection Center: enables and manages your wireless connection to the Internet.

Windows Live Hotspot Locator: provides a community style approach to sharing hotspot information, with users able to map and rate hotspots they discover. Expect to see Windows Live Local integration here.”

The Wifi Suite does not work with handheld devices such as Pocket PCs, and as Mary-Jo Foley notes, Vista compataibility is not expected until next month. Read more..
