‘Windows 7 will not support ARM-powered smartbook PCs for time being’, Microsoft says

ARM processors-powered Smartbook PCs will be launched in 2010, but Microsoft will continue its strategic alliance with Intel and will not’ve Windows 7 support smartbook PCs for time being, says Mike Nash. And although some market watchers think that vendors of netbooks may consider adopting less expensive operating systems, market response has shown that an increasing number of netbook users’re willing to pay more for using Windows 7, Nash pointed out. In addition, from Microsoft’s point of view, the key point is that different devices need to show differentiation in terms of value of functionality, Nash indicated. Therefore, there’s still room for matching Windows with smartbooks by using Windows CE, which supports ARM-based processors, Nash pointed out.
