Windows 7 USB/DVD Tool used lifted GPLv2 code, confirms Microsoft – Releasing tool under General Public License v2

Just after two days of pulling back Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool for investigation, after the complaints were raised that the tool uses lifted GPL code; Microsoft issued statement regarding the reports: “After looking at code in question, we’re now able to confirm this was indeed the case, although it was not intentional on our part. While we had contracted with a third party to create the tool, we share responsibility as we didn’t catch it as part of our code review process. We’ve furthermore conducted a review of other code provided through Microsoft Store and this was the only incident of this sort we could find. As a result, we’ll be making source code as well as binaries for this tool available next week under the General Public License v2 as described here. We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience this has caused.”
