The Window Embedded Standard 2009 May 2011 Feature Update is now available for download to customers running the predecessor of Windows Embedded Standard 7.
“Two new features for Windows Embedded Standard 2009 are now available on the ECE site, Enhanced Write Filter Management Tool and File Based Write Filter Management Tool,”revealed Lynda Allen, Microsoft Embedded program manager.
These out-of-band features provides an application to monitor and configure the “Enhanced Write Filter (EWF)” or “File Based Write Filter (FBWF)”,” Allend added.
“By default the application will start on system start and will register a notification area icon. The settings, however, allow suppressing the automatic starting.”
The tool can be started with a command line parameter to open either the overview dialog or (for users with administrative privileges) the configuration dialog. If the tool is started with a command line parameter, the tool will exit as soon as the respective dialog is closed.
“The new features are rolled into the “Window Embedded Standard 2009” — May 2011 Feature Update. These can be imported into the product database,” Allen said.
The Management Tools have a dependency on the Write Filter Providers, which shipped in the February 2011 Feature Update.
