Adoption of Android Pay in the UK is growing rapidly since its launch in May, as people are tapping on the Tube, in stores, and in their favorite apps—getting more into the festive season, Google announces “shop. tap. reward” for all UK residents.
Starting now, each time you use Android Pay in store or on the London network until the end of the year or while supplies last, “a virtual cracker will appear inside your app—open it to see if you’ve won one of over 100,000 gift cards,” Google said.
Additionally, with each of the first five taps will earn you a virtual coin, and once you collect five coins, “you’ll get a free £3 Costa Coffee gift card.”
The gift cards including a £10 Costa Coffee gift card, a pair of tickets for ODEON Cinemas, a £500 House of Fraser gift card or a £500 Currys PC World gift card.
For those using Android Pay on London transport, some new features are rolling out this week to enhance the experience:
- When you forget to tap in or out at any TfL station, Android Pay will notify you the following day about the incomplete journey, so you can request a refund on TfL website.
- Station names and bus numbers will now be tracked within the Android Pay app, will show a daily summary of your journey added to your TfL transaction.
- UK users will also now see Android Pay button in the Uber app. And starting later this week, you can also get up to 50% off your next 10 rides (up to £5 per ride) when you use Android Pay.
Android Pay is currently available in United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Poland and New Zealand, with more countries coming soon. Google said, in the coming weeks, they are rolling out new celebratory animations to all users everywhere, “as they tap and pay with Android Pay (conditions apply).”
Android Pay is a Google mobile app that allows you to make contactless payments.
