It’s (almost) official. Playing Wii Sports can make you fitter. That’s the news out of North America today, where one fan of Nintendo’s new console’s fans measured the impact a thirty-minute daily session had on his weight over a six-week period.
Twenty-five year-old Wii gamer Mickey DeLorenzo played Wii Sports every day for thirty-minutes for six-weeks until the 15th of January. During the test, he ate and drank as he had before the exercise period, the gaming session being the only lifestyle difference.
With the test concluded, DeLorenzo claims his weight fell from 181lbs (82kg) to 172lbs (78kg), with his Body Mass Index dropping from 25.2 to 24.0, according to a fitness specialist. Who said gaming was unhealthy? Certainly not Nintendo, who will be pleased to see their ‘disruptive’ game console associated with health benefits, yet another way in which the new system might look to entice non-traditional gamers.
