W3C Working Draft on the XMLHttpRequest Object

Is the standardization of AJAX on its road ? The W3C have a first Working Draft on the XMLHttpRequest Object, the major component behind AJAX technology, published yesterday on the W3C website and produced by the Web API WG, part of the Rich Web Clients Activity in the W3C Interaction Domain. The specification aims to provide more interoperability between the different XMLHttpRequest implementations and avoiding to have plateform dependant code. The document give a specification proposal for the XMLHttpRequest object, its Attributes and methods. For example for manipulating response headers we can have :

Of course the creation of a standard isn’t the easy process and will take time, but it’s great that this process have already started and got already a first working draft. Waiting for this draft to become a recommandation and then to be adopted, and if you look in the list of authors below you can see people from Opera, Mozilla, Google, Apple, Sun, IntuiLab, and others but nobody from microsoft. This represent about 15% of actors in browser market, since IE is still taking about 85% of browsers market share according to the latests studies.
