Vista’s Next Version Is Available

Only three days after the release of Microsoft’s latest operating system, the long awaited Windows Vista, I found out about its next version already! Sounds even more incredible if I name the source of this amazing discovery: Apple’s official website!

Do you think this is a joke? I thought that too, but although Vista will be a big step forward for many users, for me, as the power user that I am, it’s a step that I won’t dare to make. I have my own reasons for that, but no need to explain myself now, because I have to tell you about Vista’s future version mentioned on the Apple.com website. Are you ready?

The next version of Vista will make you forget about those over 100,000 viruses in the wild that get more and more day by day, the driver problems will be a part of the past, and will help you use all your hardware right out of the box, without any upgrade nightmares, so even your grandmother can use it without heaving a heart attack.

Scheduled for this spring, Vista’s much improved version seems to have only one little problem – it won’t be produced by Microsoft! Obviously, its name is going to be Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard” and is coming from Apple. Well, what were you expecting? Apple plays rough this time, and they have all the cards to end this game with a Royal Flush, but it depends on how they are going to use them, of course.

According to Apple, “While Vista does its best to copy some features that have been in Mac OS X for years, Mac OS X offers an experience that is simply years ahead. It’s designed to make the time you spend at your computer not only productive, but enjoyable — not exactly the kind of experience PCs are known for.”, but the hardest part for all Microsoft evangelists out there, and even for Bill Gates or Steve Balmer themselves, comes with New York Times’ David Pogue words, quoted on the same page – “You get the feeling that Microsoft’s managers put Mac OS X on an easel and told the programmers, ‘Copy that.’”.

I am not saying that Vista is a bad operating system, but all the really useful features found inside it are here on my Mac, not to talk about the fact that my Tiger’s file system is much smarter, so… please allow me to quote Apple’s website for the last time, and despite the fact that I don’t want to advertise for anyone, they may be right…

“The choice today is between an OS trying its best to catch up— or Mac OS X, which continues to lead the way.”
