Visio 2010: Creating Subprocesses and Hyperlinks

Visio 2010 adds explicit support to create new subprocesses and reference existing ones, to build large process diagrams and segment them into manageable, reusable pieces.

  • Create New command help you build out a brand new subprocess represented by selected shape. This’ll insert a new blank page and add page name and a hyperlink pointing to new page to selected shape.
  • Link to Existing allows you to create a hyperlink on selected shape that points either to a page in current document or to an external document, such as one stored in a Visio Process Repository.
  • Create from Selection is used when you want to move a number of shapes from your current page onto a new subprocess page.
  • Hyperlinks are used to jump to and from various subprocesses, using Ctrl+Click on a shape to follow a hyperlink. You can add own hyperlinks to shapes using Hyperlink command on Insert menu. Hyperlink button is disabled if no shapes are selected. Page hyperlinks can still be added via API or PageSheet. Document hyperlinks, developers can add through API or DocumentSheet and end users can do it in Backstage View.Click File tab, and go to right side of Info tab, where document properties are listed.
