Virtual Tour of the Tablet Evolution Presented by Motorola [Video]

Tablets are the hottest items at CES 2001 in Las Vegas, but according to an ad from Motorola, this simply continues a long evolution of the flat, scribable platform. To help build anticipation for the Jan’5 unveiling of its Xoom tablet computer, the company released a 96-second, computer-generated tour of the history of the tablet, focusing on the pro’s and cons of each. Hence, the Ten Commandments offers “excellent durability” but “zero flexibility (can’t edit).”

This virtual tour of the Museum of Tablets gallery, featuring the backdrop of a tense, modern musical score, takes shots at the more-recent Apple iPad (“It’s like a giant iPhone…but it’s like a giant iPhone.”) and Samsung Galaxy Tab before stopping at a shrouded machine resting above the Motorola logo. Before the screen fades to black, a computerized bee lands on the logo, hinting at the product’s operating system, Google’s Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

The video garnered more than 1.3 million views on YouTube in just two weeks:
