Verizon, Google Legislative Framework Proposal for Net Neutrality in America

Eric Schmidt and Ivan Seidenberg, Chairman and CEO of Verizon, announced a joint proposal for an open Internet (net neutralityl). “These proposals underlines our commitment to an open Internet and the need for continued investment in broadband infrastructure. While these proposals are specific to open Internet developments in the US, we’re always keen on continuing the dialogue engaged in Europe on ways to best support open Internet. Both companies are supporting a “7-point plan” to maintain net neutrality, and they want the US government to get behind it,” stated Google.

We’ve been guided by two main goals: 1. Users should choose what content, applications, or devices they use, since openness has been central to explosive innovation that has made the Internet a transformative medium. 2. America must continue to encourage both investment and innovation to support underlying broadband infrastructure; it’s imperative for our global competitiveness.
