iOS hacker MuscleNerd, announced an untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak is now released. Funday, or the trending twitter topic #sundayisfunday, is a related nickname for a jailbreak that got released over two years ago on Sunday.
“Untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 supports iPhone 4 (GSM only, since iOS 4.3.1 isn’t available for the Verizon iPhone yet) and 3GS, third- and fourth-generation iPod touch, second-generation Apple TV (via PwnageTool only, for now) and the original iPad. New versions of Redsn0w for Windows and PwnageTool for Mac OS X are out to jailbreak those devices running iOS 4.3.1. Unlike a previous tethered jailbreak, this one doesn’t require you to tether the device to a computer each time it’s restarted. While the updated tools won’t let you jailbreak iOS 4.3 or 4.3.1 on iPad 2, a solutions is in the works and should be expected in the coming days.”
The iPhone Dev-Team has updated their redsn0w and PwnageTool utilities to enable an untethered jailbreak of the latest and greatest iOS version. Redsn0w 0.9.6rc6 and PwnageTool 4.3 both use an exploit discovered by Stefan Esser, a German security researcher, best know to the jailbreak community as the man behind the antid0te framework, which implemented ALSR; a random arrangement of data for increased security against hacking.
The latest iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak, when released, will be able to jailbreak iPhone 3GS, 4 (GSM), iPod touch 3G, 4G, iPad 1 and Apple TV 2G.
