University of Arizona (UA) leverages Microsoft BPOS for e-mail, calendaring and collaboration tools

The University of Arizona has “selected Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite to provide 18,000 faculty & staff members with next-gen communications tools to greatly enhance collaboration on campus, laying groundwork for a new cloud-computing approach to higher education IT investment. In addition to updating university’s numerous and antiquated e-mail & calendaring programs to one centralized system, employees will get 10 GB mailboxes and new features such as instant messaging, presence and online meetings with ability to share their desktop, audio or video with other users on or off campus. UA also plans to start providing students with option to sign up for Windows Live ID on Microsoft’s [email protected] service, offering Office Web Apps and Windows Live SkyDrive among other services to deliver an integrated and standardized platform across faculty, staff and students that’ll enable increased and more efficient collaboration. University’s migration to Microsoft BPOS will begin in next few weeks with the goal of having all campus employees on new system by this fall,” writes Microsoft.
