Tips To Hide Contacts and Tasks Links On Gmail’s Links Bar

Many users complained about the links to the contacts manager and to Google Tasks, which are now displayed at the top of the page, above the Compose button in the latest Gmail interface. If you’re one of those who rarely using contact manager and don’t need a task management app, the two links can be annoying. Google added a +(plus) button that lets you collapse the group of links, but the setting don’t preserved when you reloaded the page.

Now you can permanently hide the links to “contacts” and “tasks”. If you ignore the blue bar at the top of the page and you don’t click on “Mail”, you’ll no longer see two links. Another option is to use a Greasemonkey userscript that moves the links below the labels, and should in Firefox, Chrome and Opera.

Note: Gmail’s links bar is quite important and it’s likely that Gmail will add links to other services in future. A Google employee detailed its purpose.

[Thanks, Alex]
