Steve Jobs: “iPad Is Clearly Going To Affect Notebook Computers, Sold Over 250K Apple TVs, Open Systems Don’t Always Win”

Here’re some quotes from Apple CEO Steve Jobs today’s Apple’s Q4 earnings call:

  • Jobs pointed out that “open systems don’t always win.” But he also tried to reframe the debate. “Open versus closed is a smokescreen,” he argues. “Google likes to characterize Android as open and iOS as closed. We think this’s disingenuous.” The real difference between iPhone and Android is, he says, “integrated versus fragmented.” Depending on carrier and manufacturer, different Android phones runs different versions of Android. Developers are left having to create multiple versions of their apps to work across different Android devices. “The user is left to figure it out,” says Jobs “Compare that to iPhone, where every app is the same.”
  • When someone asked how the Apple TV is doing since its relaunch, Jobs gave a very specific answer. “In a short amount of time, we’ve already sold a quarter million.” He quickly made it a bit more clear: “over 250,000.”
  • “The iPad is clearly going to affect notebook computers,” Jobs said.
