SQL Server Days 2011: Optimizing SQL Server in a Virtual Environment and More!

SQL Server Days 2011 WebcastTo counter the disasters can shut down a SQL Server, Microsoft has already implemented a lot of high availability solutions in previous editions of SQL Server, like failover clustering, database mirroring, log shipping,… But, SQL Server 2012 introduces “SQL Server AlwaysOn,” that let you increase application availability and get a better return on your hardware investments through a simplified high availability deployment and management experience.

In this session you will see the key capabilities and concepts of Database Availability and Instance Availability including:

  • Instance Availability: SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances, SQL Server Multi-Subnet Failover Cluster and how to deploy a SQL Server Multi-Site Cluster (Demo).
  • Database Availability: Deploying availability groups, configuration Application Failover using a Virtual Name, Initiating a failover to the secondary and possibilities with the active secondary.

Introducing SQL Server AlwaysOn:

Microsoft added the SQL Parallel Datawarehouse 2008 R2 appliance (PDW) to its portfolio. In this session we will show you the insights why SQL PDW is fun to work with, where the parallel power kicks In, and typical signals which may indicate that SQL PDW comes into range for you also:

SQL Server Parallel Data Warehouse 2008 R2 (PDW). What’s in it for me?:

This session look over some of the things which you should be looking at within your virtual environment to ensure that you are getting the performance out of it that you should be. This will include how to look for CPU performance issues at the host level.

Also, discussed is the Memory Balloon drivers and what they actually do, and how you should be configuring them, and why.

And, memory sharing technologies which are built into vSphere and Hyper-V and how they relate to SQL Server.

In this session, Cihan Biyikoglu cover many corners of the platform and the entire set of technologies in the Azure Platform ranging from Windows Azure storage to SQL Azure relational database and from Windows Azure compute to the Windows Azure app fabric components and more.
