SkyDrive Pro Standalone Client for Windows Now Available!

SkyDrive Pro sync client is now available for Windows, and allows users of SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint Online in Office 365 to sync their personal SkyDrive Pro and any SharePoint 2013 or Office 365 team site document libraries to their local machine for access to important content on and offline.

“The SkyDrive Pro client can be installed standalone and does not require any version of Office to be installed. It can also be installed side-by-side with previous versions of Office (Office 2010, Office 2007),” Microsoft Office team explains.

Also, note that SkyDrive Pro sync standalone client is not required, if you already have installed any one of the following Office 2013 versions:

  • “Office 365 Pro Plus;
  • Office 365 Small Business Premium;
  • and Office Professional Plus 2013.”

“Once installed, simply click SYNC in the top right corner of your SkyDrive Pro library, SharePoint 2013 or Office 365 team site document library and you’ll be on your way to keep your files in sync across your machines,” the team adds.

Update 05:25:Microsoft’s SkyDrive team is planning to add support for uploading and viewing 3D panorama within SkyDrive.com in the “future”, which, will be based on the Photosynth technology.

However, whilst the current apps and tools supports uploading to the Photosynth.net website, it’s understood that SkyDrive.com will support the storage and viewing of these panoramas in the future, through what is referred to as “interactive panorama mode”.

Howerver, we’re unsure whether “synths”, also based on Photosynth technology, will be supported on SkyDrive.com.

“”Synths” are a collection of overlapping photos that are automatically reconstructed into a 3D model, and can only be created using the Photosynth application.”
