Setting up ‘service area listing’ in Google Places

Businesses can now use Google Places to specify a service area to do business. “If you operate business, you can set service area in Google Places quickly & easily. If you’ve a limit to travel, you can set service area as a circle around a specific location. For particular list of places where you work, you can list areas served by zip codes, cities, counties, or even neighborhoods. If you run business from home or private office and don’t have a location for customers to visit, you can choose to show service area but mark the listing address as private in Google Places. When customer searches for you, they’ll see business service area, but no specific location marker, else the maker shown. Also aggregated data from 3rd-party sources to expand number of businesses with service areas and help keep information accurate and up-to-date. To see a business’ service areas, click on the “show service area” option (when available) in the info bubble,” explained Google.
