Roslyn September 2012 CTP; WMF 3.0; Windows Server 2012, Windows 8 Group Policy Spreadsheets; DCA 2.0; FIM2010 Connector for Lotus Domino 8.x

The Roslyn September 2012 CTP is now available and provides support for Visual Studio 2012 RTM. The CTP ‘no longer’ support Visual Studio 2010.

In addition, Microsoft also released an updated NuGet packages.

For those news, “Traditionally, compilers are black boxes — source code goes in one end, and object files or assemblies come out the other end. The Roslyn project changes that model by opening up the VB and C# compilers. The compilers provide APIs to allow tools and end-users to share in the wealth of information the compilers have about code. The Microsoft “Roslyn” CTP previews the new language object models for code generation, analysis, and refactoring, and the upcoming support for scripting and interactive use of C# and Visual Basic.”

Windows Management Framework 3.0 final version is now available and makes much of the same great management functionality from Windows Server 2012 available to earlier versions of Windows.

WMF 3.0 allows to install Windows PowerShell 3.0 (including a new version of WMI and WinRM) on the following Operating Systems: “Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (32-bit & 64-bit); Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (64-bit only, includes Server Core); Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (32-bit & 64-bit).”

Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 Group Policy spreadsheets now available list the policy settings for computer and user configurations that are included in the Administrative template files delivered with the Windows operating systems specified.

You can configure these policy settings when you edit Group Policy Objects.

“You can use the filtering capabilities that are included in this spreadsheet to view a specific subset of data, based on one value or a combination of values that are available in one or more of the columns,” Microsoft stated.

In addition, you can click Custom in the drop-down list of any of the column headings to add additional filtering criteria within that column.

To view a specific subset of data, “click the drop-down arrow in the column heading of cells that contain the value or combination of values on which you want to filter, and then click the desired value in the drop-down list,” the company explains.

DirectAccess Connectivity Assistant (DCA) 2.0 now available can be used by computers running Windows 7 when connecting to internal corporate networks with DirectAccess in Windows Server 2012.

It improves the DirectAccess connection experience, supports one-time password (OTP) authentication for DirectAccess users and helps organizations reduce the cost of supporting DirectAccess users.

DCA 2.0 provides the following functionality:

  • Provides DirectAccess users with connectivity information. Users can view their DirectAccess connectivity status at all times.
  • Provides diagnostics and troubleshooting features. DCA 2.0 provides tools to help users reconnect if problems arise, and create diagnostics to provide IT administrators with troubleshooting information.
  • Supports one-time password (OTP) authentication for DirectAccess users required to authenticate using OTP.

Forefront Identity Manager Connector for Lotus Domino 8.x helps you synchronize identity information, easily provision and deprovision accounts and identity information and also provides password management capabilities for Lotus Domino systems.

Supported server versions: IBM Lotus Domino 8.0.x; and IBM Lotus Domino 8.5.x.

Microsoft also published a whitepaper “Introduction to designing reliable cloud services,” describing underlying reliability concepts and a reliability design and implementation process for organizations that create, deploy and/or consume cloud services.

Finally, a new Test Lab Guide: Demonstrate Social Features for SharePoint Server 2013 Preview now available introduces “social features in SharePoint Server 2013 Preview and step-by-step instructions for configuring and then demonstrating My Sites, Newsfeeds, Community Sites, and Team Site feeds.”
