Redesigned Trending Results Page, New Live Connect Features, Fundraisers Adds More People & Causes

Facebook is introducing a newly redesigned Trending results page, that opens up when a Trending topic is click to learn more about related posts and stories.

Witht this new redesigned page, users can now easily discover other most popular publications, too, that are covering the story. The new results page is available today on iPhone in the US. And, will soon available on Android and desktop as well.

Now, clicking on a Trending topic, will open up a carousel with most popular stories about that topic from other publications that can be swipe through. Facebook determine these stories using a combination of factors like “engagement around a article, engagement around publisher overall, and whether other articles are linking to it.”

There is no predetermined list of publications that are eligible to appear in Trending and this update does not affect how Trending topics are identified.

Facebook is also making it easier to discover Trending on mobile devices with a test soon begining in News Feed, that show top three Trending stories, which can be click to see the full list of Trending topics and explore.

While most people will not see Trending in their News Feed, however, those who do see, can remove it through the new option in the drop-down menu, which will prevent it from being shown in the future, said facebook.

Also, on Wednesday, the company has announced two new features on Live, that make it easier to share experiences and connect in real time include: Live Chat With Friends and Live With.

Live Chat With Friends, let users invoke a private chat about a public live broadcast along with an option to continue participate in personal conversations within Live experience. You can jump back into public conversation at any time, while chatting via Messenger after the broadcast ends.

The feature is also currently in test on mobile in several countries, and will become more broadly later this summer.

Live With, which until now was available to public figures, is now available for all profiles and Pages on iOS. Using, Live With, users can invite a friend into live video so you can hang out together. Simply select a guest from the Live Viewers section, or tap a comment from a viewer to invite. Once a invitee choose to join or not to join the broadcast—you can go live in both portrait mode for a picture-in-picture experience, and in landscape mode for a side-by-side experience.

Facebook is now giving people another way to mobilize around causes by expanding personal fundraisers to everyone over 18 in the US, and two new categories – community and sports.

People can easily create a fundraiser to quickly raise money and easily reach friends in just a few taps on Facebook, can share fundraisers to build momentum, and learn about those who created fundraiser as well as about those benefiting and who have donated.

The following categories are now available for people to raise fund:

  • Education: such as tuition, books or classroom supplies
  • Medical: such as medical procedures, treatments or injuries
  • Pet Medical: such as veterinary procedures, treatments or injuries
  • Crisis Relief: such as public crises or natural disasters
  • Personal Emergency: such as a house fire, theft or car accident
  • Funeral and Loss: such as burial expenses or living costs after losing a loved one
  • Sports: such as equipment, competitions or team fees
  • Community: such as neighborhood services, community improvements or environmental improvements

Nonprofit fundraisers continue to be available for people on Facebook to raise funds and awareness for 501(c)(3) nonprofits. To get started follow the three steps:

  1. On mobile, tap the menu icon and select Fundraisers, or on desktop, go to facebook.com/fundraisers
  2. Choose to raise money for a Friend, Yourself or Someone or Something Not on Facebook
  3. Give your fundraiser a title and compelling story, and start raising money
