Google eBooks now supports offline reading in Google Chrome. “Whether you are flying through the air, backpacking through the European countryside, or simply facing intermittent network connections, you can always read your Google eBooks in your Chrome browser or on your Chromebook,” Google said.

Google eBook now support Offline reading in Chrome browser

In order to read Google eBooks offline, just install the Google Books app from Chrome Web Store, then click “Add to Chrome”, and confirm installation by clicking on “Install” when prompted. After successfully installing the app, you can find it by opening a New Window or New Tab in Chrome, and clicking on the Google Books app icon in the “Apps” section.

“Before you can read your ebooks when offline, you need to download the ebooks when you are online. To do that, open the app when you are online to get to your ebooks. Then, move your mouse over the cover of books you’d like to download, and find the “Make available offline” checkbox in the pop-up that appears.

If you are reading a title in the web reader, you can also access this option by clicking on the “i” in the right-hand corner of your screen.

Once you select “Make available offline” for a title, the Google Books app will start downloading that book in the background. When this download is completed, the book is ready for ready any time, and you’ll see the gray text “Available offline” under the book cover.

After you’ve finished downloading your ebooks for offline reading, you can now read those you downloaded any time in the Google Books app, whether you’re online or offline. The app will show your connection status in the top right hand corner,” explains Google help center.
