On March 8th, Microsoft Exchange team released the new Office Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT) replacing Outlook Configuratoin Analyzer (OCAT).
OffCAT uses the same BPA framework as OCAT, so if you’ve used OCAT, you’ll feel right at home with OffCAT.
“There are many new features in OffCAT, but the biggest difference between the two tools is the ability to scan more Office programs than just Outlook. With OffCAT v1, you can scan Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word,” the team writes.
With OffCAT, you can:
- “Scan an Office program configuration
- Open a previously run OffCAT (or OCAT) scan on your computer
- Import an OffCAT (or OCAT) scan from another computer
- Use several reporting formats to view the scan results
- Send feedback to the OffCAT team
- Update your OffCAT installation with new detection rules
- Update your OffCAT installation with new features or application fixes
- Access resources to help resolve top problems and how-to issues in Office 365
- Start the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer tool to analyze Outlook connection issues
- Scan computers using a script that runs a command-line version of OffCAT,” the team explains.
Microsoft Exchange Server Jetstress 2013 now available helps to verify the performance and stability of a disk subsystem prior to putting an Exchange server into production.
“Jetstress helps verify disk performance by simulating Exchange disk Input/Output (I/O) load. Specifically, Jetstress simulates the Exchange database and log file loads produced by a specific number of users,” Microsoft stated.
“You use Performance Monitor, Event Viewer, and ESEUTIL in conjunction with Jetstress to verify that your disk subsystem meets or exceeds the performance criteria you establish. After a successful completion of the Jetstress Disk Performance and Stress Tests in a non-production environment, you will have ensured that your Exchange disk subsystem is adequately sized (in terms of performance criteria you establish) for the user count and user profiles you have established,” the company explains.
It is highly recommended that the Jetstress user read through the tool documentation before using the tool.
