In an update to Flights Google has announced three new updates to help people find cheaper flights than what were surfaced before as well as provide details about potential flight delays.
“Google Flights can now help you predict those flight delays, and we’re also introducing a new feature to help you feel confident about finding the cheapest fare no matter where you’re going,” writes Google.
Basic Economy Air Fares
As more airlines begin to offer “basic economy” fare for people traveling on a budget, Google Flights will now start to include information about this fare types in search results from American, Delta, and United.
Below you can see the new search results showing those fare:
Flight Delay Predictions
Perhaps the most stressful part during traveling is waiting to board as flight running several hours late without knowing the reason, now when you check if a flight is on time, Google Flights will start providing details about flight delays along with the reasons for those delays.
Simply search for flight, like for example “American 4442” or the airline and flight route, say “Air New Zealand Auckland to Singapore”, and the details will appear right inside the search results.

Google says its uses machine learning with historic flight status data to predict these delays even when this information isn’t available from airlines. And, these “delays are flagged with at least 80% certainity,” says Google.
Don’t let uncertainty—it’s still recommend to get on to the airport with enough time to spare.
These updates are now available to everyone using flights.google.com.
