Operate your Windows Vista via a Remote Control

Microsoft is trying its best to push their new Windows Vista into our homes and lives, and, as expected, more and more manufacturers are starting to launch various devices which take advantage of the features the new OS has to offer. And one of the most interesting and useful such gadgets comes from Philips, who has just announced their Vista Remote, a controller which offers support for one of the most interesting features Vista has to offer, namely the Windows SideShow.

This very innovative remote, dubbed SRM7500, features two-way RF technology, which means that it doesn’t require line-of-sight in order to control the various functions of your Windows Vista PC, but also a 6-line display which allows the users to view and select their content (music, movies  etc.) without having to go anywhere near the computer. Moreover, the remote control can be setup in order to provide direct access to various online content, as for example news-feeds, stock quotes, and emails, thus making it a very good control solution for the overall control of one’s Media Center.

However, there’s more to the Vista remote than meets the eye. Thus, not only is it capable of controlling your PC, but it can also operate some other devices around the house, since Philips actually made it into an enhanced universal remote. Actually, the company stated that, since it comes with “the largest database of any universal remote control on the market today, there is virtually no remote-controllable home equipment that it can’t recognize”. It remains to be seen whether this last claim is true, but in any case, the SRM7500 Vista Remote from Philips will probably be quite successful, especially if we take into consideration the fact that the ranks of couch potatoes are getting thicker by the day.
