You may know, your Facebook status messages are open by default, a new site called “openbook,” which’s basically a front end for the public search API service that Facebook released on April 21st, 2010, intend to draw attention to the information that Facebook now makes publicly available about its users. “Our goal is to get Facebook to restore the privacy of this information, so that this website and others like it no longer work. This website is a parody, and has no relationship to Facebook,” writes openbook.
Anybody can search, even if they don’t have Facebook account. Although if you’re logged in, you’ll see full profile pages when you click a user. You can filter your search by gender. openbook’s suggested searches include “cheated test,” “playing hooky,” “rectal exam” (ew) and and “lost virginity.” openbook just shows that a whole lot of people might be sharing publicly without realizing it.
