Offline OWA Access in Exchange 15; Imagine Cup @10 Has 1.25M Students Worldwide; Microsoft Named in Top 3 Best Corporate Citizens 2012 List of CR Magazine

Corporate Responsibility Magazine has announced that Microsoft was named among the Top 3 Best Corporate Citizens for 2012. Now in its thirteenth year, the list ranks companies based on publicly available information in seven categories: environmental impact, climate change, human rights, philanthropy, employee relations, financial performance and governance.

In other Microsoft new this week, Microsoft’s signature technology competition “Imagine Cup” turns 10. “When Imagine Cup started 10 years ago, a few thousand students participated worldwide. Since then, more than 1.25 million students have dared to dream big, and the competition’s finals have been held in countries around the world, including Egypt, France, Brazil and the U.S,” posted Mark Hindsbo, vp of Microsoft’s U.S. Developer & Platform Evangelism Group.

“Yet it’s been estimated that 1 million science and engineering jobs will go unfilled in the U.S. alone over the next three to five years,” Hindsbo stated.

“This weekend, 73 students will compete at the Imagine Cup 2012 U.S. finals on the Microsoft campus in Redmond. The U.S. Imagine Cup is one of more than 70 regional Imagine Cup events that are happening around the world this spring. This year, one U.S. team has created a solution that uses cell phones to increase child vaccination levels in India, and others have created games that serve to increase awareness of social issues,” Microsoft adds.

With Exchange 15, the next version of Microsoft’s on-premises e-mail, calendaring and contacts erver, Microsoft is planning to focus less on communication and more on collaboration.

According ZDNet report, “there will be team mailboxes that integrate directly with SharePoint as part of the coming release. There is also going to be an offline mode in Outlook Web App (Web-based Exchange e-mail client formerly “Outlook Web Access”) ,which will be enabled by HTML5. Finally, Office 15 will also have the ability to use the Microsoft FAST enterprise search technology to do organization-wide searches across Exchange 15, Lync 15 and SharePoint 15.”
