Office 365 administration update for December 2016 brings new experience including a new OneDrive for Business admin center, new settings to manage Microsoft Teams and GigJam, and improvements to new Service health dashboard.
Summary of the recent updates include:
New OneDrive for Business admin center rolling out to First Release customers and can be accessed at onedrive.com/admin while in preview. Over the past year, Microsoft introduced new features for users and IT admins—across sync, web and mobile on OneDrive for Business.
The company notes, the generally availability of the new admin center will happen in early 2017, and that will also add a link from Office 365 admin center.
Microsoft Teams, a chat-based workspace in preview since November can now manage from the Office 365 admin center. The feature disabled by default, can be enabled in the Services & add-ins page. After enabling, the admins can configure Microsoft Teams including notifications, feedback, bots and screen sharing in meetings.
GigJam, that helps getting work done across orgazinational network by sharing just the slice of information both inside and outside a company—can now be managed from the Office 365 admin center directly from the Services & add-ins page.
New Service health dashboard rolling out to First Release customers, provides a new level of personalized service health insights to admins. Additionally, “a new rating option enables admins to provide feedback on the accuracy and usefulness of the information of each post on the Service health dashboard,” writes Office team.
While, the summary view surfaces most relevant and critical details by showing the number of impacted users, to help admins stay on top of service incidents, improve internal support experience and user experience.
In addition, admins can now access full history view of each message that provides access to all previous posts by clicking Show details. Admins can also now also access a searchable history view that displays all incidents and advisories from the past 30 days.
The dashboard makes it easier to identify relevant issues by separating major business critical outages from others and splitting them into two categories: incidents and advisories.
The company notes, the new dashboard will roll out in February 2017, and “more reports that focus on which clients are used to access SharePoint, OneDrive for Business and Yammer” will add in the coming months.
Also, Office 365 adoption content pack in Power BI, will be available to all customers along with new public APIs.
In an update to Office apps on Android, Microsoft has enabled support for editing SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) images in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Use SVG images in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint: Insert and edit scalable vector graphic (SVG) images in presentation to create sharp, well-designed content. SVG images can also be searched, indexed, scripted, and compressed. Since SVG images are XML files, they can be created and edited with any text editor.
Are you an Office 365 Home subscriber, well you can now share your subscription benefits with up to four people in your household. To share your subscription, just send an invitation to an email id, or Facebook account, or share a link, the receiving peorson than need to sign in with their Microsoft account and can install Office via their own My Office Account page.
Additionally, you can also directly add one of your Microsoft Family members without sending an invitation.
When you share Office 365 Home subscription, each person gets Office installs for PC, Mac, tablets, and smartphones, and their own free 1 TB OneDrive storage, and 60 Skype minutes of calling per month to mobile phones in eight countries and to landlines in 60+ countries.
People you sharing Office 365 Home subscription won’t have access to your personal OneDrive storage, unless of course, you specifically share files or folders with them.
Those who are sharing their subcrption can also see from My Office Account page, who has installed Office. Additionally, they can also deactivate an install on a specific device to free up an install for use on other device.
