Microsoft has shared some new features for the Xbox One family of gaming console which are part of the October 2018 Update.
The feature update version 1810 released today offers new ways to express with Avatars, interact with the console using voice Xbox Skills, and enjoy the favorite streaming content.
Among other new features, the most notable is a support for Cortana and Amazon’s Alexa for Xbox Skill.
This feature expands Xbox voice navigation and interaction beyond Kinect and headset to Cortana and Alexa-enabled devices such as Echo.
In order to set up Alexa, speak “Alexa, open Xbox”, for Cortana, say, “Hey Cortana, open Xbox”, or search for “Xbox” in the assistant skill store.
Voice commands can be used to “power on/off the console, adjust volume, launch games and apps, start and stop broadcasts on Mixer, capture screenshots,” and more.
For example, saying, “Alexa, launch Forza Horizon 4” will turn on Xbox One console, sign in, and launch the game.
As part or promotional scheme, people will be getting a free Amazon Echo Dot by shopping a qualified Xbox One S or Xbox One X bundle at Amazon.com
Both the Xbox Skill for Cortana and Alexa and the promotion is available in the US only.
Dolby Vision Streaming
Dolby Vision HDR video streaming across Xbox One S and Xbox One X serves HDR with dynamic scene-by-scene.
Dolby Vision can be enabled by from Settings -> Display and sound -> Video output -> Video modes -> “Allow Dolby Vision” on the One console.
It’s now supported on select TVs from LG, Sony, and Funai made in 2017 and 2018. For a full list of compatible TVs, see here.

New Xbox Avatars
Microsoft’s new Xbox avatars are now available across Xbox One. They include all body types, moods, items from games, and more.
The new Avatar Store offers more new avatar items from Halo, Gears of War, and more.
Using Photobooth users can snap a picture of their new Avatar to use it as Gamerpic and for mood.
Xbox Avatar Editor can be used to compare and choose the best that represents you.
When selected Xbox Original Avatar, all content from Xbox Original avatar’s closet will become available via Xbox Original Avatars app on Xbox One and Windows 10.
Finally, Microsoft added five more languages to the Narrator, including Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Swedish, and Dutch. The company also added Australian English.
October 2018 Xbox Update will be available now through Xbox One console, although your device will eventually update automatically.
Insiders on the Preview Alpha ring will next begin testing the next feature update, codenamed 19H1.
Those who want to get access to early features releases can download Xbox Insider Hub app on either Xbox One or Windows 10 PC.
Microsoft concludes the post promising to additional features to Xbox One this fall.
The recently released October Windows Update introduced following improvements to Windows 10 for PC gamers, new look user interface, and audio controls.

Game Mode enhancement made through this update include:

FastStart, a new added to the Xbox One give an ability to start playing a game even before it’s finished downloading entirety.
The feature supports a significant amount of Xbox 360 and Xbox One titles.

After over three-year of an official announcement, Microsoft made the promised “mouse and keyboard” support available to the Xbox One.
The feature is meant to make games “fun, fair, and correctly balanced” with all the advantages of a keyboard.
The feature would not be initially available to all games.
Developers can make their own decisions whether to add mouse and keyboard support to their game or not.
The Twitch app for the PlayStation 4 which introduced an improved content discoverability and a redesigned user interface is now available on Xbox One, too.
