If you often have a lot of browser tabs open, new Microsoft Edge features coming in the Windows 10 Creators Update will help you stay organized. Users will be able to quickly preview open tabs with visual thumbnails and easily set aside a group of tabs — and find them later — for fewer distractions.
In addition, Edge was also updated with support for WebRTC 1.0 API and related technologies for plugin-free video communication. Microsoft revealed that the version of Edge available in the latest Windows 10 preview supports the WebRTC 1.0 API, and H.264/AVC and VP8 video codecs for real-time communication.
These features are by default enabled in Windows Insider Preview builds of last week’s release, 15019.
The next priority for Microsoft is to introduce support for W3C’s Screen Capture specification in its browser as well as improved support for enterprise scenarios.
In a post today, Microsoft shared a deep dive into the new features and improvements coming with Windows 10 Creators Update for Edge including:
Keeping your web organized with the new set of tab management features designed specifically to help users preview visual thumbnails of all their open tabs at a glance. As well as set a group of tabs aside in an instant to get a fresh start, removing any distractions and providing a clean browser feel, while remaining confident that they can pick up right where they left off.
We want to enable users to quickly jump from one task to another without losing focus, and help them stay immersed in the content that matters to them at that moment.
In addition, the company said they’re in early stages of bringing new experiences:
Embracing 3D with enabled support for WebVR, so users can experience virtual reality via the web using VR devices and upcoming Windows Mixed Reality hardware.
Books in the Windows Store and Microsoft Edge, empowering users with the ability to purchase e-books and read them in Microsoft Edge. In addition, users can also leverage tools to customize and create own experience with custom font sizes, layouts, themes, navigation control, Cortana integration and more. Rolling out
Online shopping gets even easier with the preview implementation of Payment Request API for Microsoft Edge, will give users quick checkout option on participating websites using their payment information stored securely in Microsoft Wallet.
Extension developers now have access to over 30% more APIs than the initial release, including access to favorites, roaming data between PCs, and an ability to securely communicate with other installed applications.
“We helped make developers more productive with updates to the Microsoft Edge Extension Toolkit to help with porting, as well as improvements to extensions debugging and interoperability,” writes the team.
Finally, in the Creators Update, Edge will be more faster and even responsive, will get even more out of battery, with powerful new defenses to keep you safe on the web.
The stable build of Edge will be available in the Creators Update when it launches in April.
Finally, the “Promote Your App” ad campaigns that delivered ad creatives in other apps in the Windows eco-system just got a major update—with the launch of “universal campaigns” that will deliver ads across Microsoft premium surfaces such as MSN.com, Outlook.com, and Skype, as well as games like the Microsoft solitaire collection.
To get started, make sure “all campaigns that use auto-targeting will be universal campaigns by default. To use auto-targeting, make sure Automatic is selected for the Audience section of your campaign settings in the Dev Center dashboard.”
If you wish to create a manually targeted campaign, make sure you choose Universal for the Surface setting in the Audience section of your campaign.
