New Look AdSense Personalized Ad Unit Optimization Recommendations Launches

Back in February of 2012, Google had introduced AdSense optimization recommendations for content ad unit or ad format settings that offered personalized tips via email.

Today, Google announced further improvments to the look and feel of these recommendations.

Next to the specific optimization suggestion, “you’ll now also see a graph that visualizes your expected revenue gain from the suggested optimization,” Google announced.

“The new graph allows you to assess instantly what you might gain from the suggested optimization and whether or not it’s worth updating your implementation,” informs Google.

Google further notes, that it will “only perform the simulations and will generate recommendations for ad units that you have created directly via the ‘My ads’ tab in your AdSense account.”

“Our recommendations are based on ad auction simulations for a specific ad unit using different ad type and/or ad format settings. We’ll only show a recommendation if our simulation predicts that a change of settings consistently results in higher revenue for that ad unit.”

Please note that “the new design including graph and total projected revenue uplift will only be visible for new recommendations. Recommendations generated before today’s date will remain in the old design,” Google explained.

Those who are still using the older AdSense code, need to upgrade their AdSense ad code–check the following Help Center for instructions, or the steps below:

Once done, in the future, you’ll be able to make changes to this AdSense unit from within your account, without updating your pages, google says.

  1. On your website, find and copy the AdSense code that you’d like to update.
  2. Sign in to your account at http://www.google.com/adsense.
  3. Visit the My ads tab.
  4. Click the Import old ad code link.
  5. On the next page, name the ad unit you’re creating. We suggest including the site, page, location, and appearance.
  6. Paste the code that you copied into the Old AdSense code box.
  7. Click Import. This creates a new AdSense unit with the same settings as the old one.
  8. Replace the old code on your pages with the newly generated code, and save your pages.
