Microsoft woo iPhone developers with “cash payments” to port apps to Windows Phone 7

Microsoft is reportedly offering ‘substantial’ upfront cash payments to iPhone developers if they agree to port their mobile apps to its Windows Phone 7 smartphone platform.

Microsoft’s attempt isn’t seeing complete success, with one developer saying the money on offer, described as a “substantial” sum, still isn’t enough to pay for the time to port code frpm C++ to Microsoft’s formats.

This follows in the footsteps of a rumor that Microsoft may change its mobile development tools to allow easier porting from iPhone/iPad Objective C to Windows Phone 7’s C# and Silverlight. The developer that contacted PocketGamer seems to think that Microsoft will have to offer both money and better porting tools if it wishes to woo the iPhone’s burgeoning crowd of game developers.
