Microsoft, Starbucks pledge $125k for fireworks over Lake Union on July 4

Providing a big boost to efforts to save Seattle’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show, Microsoft and Starbucks promised to provide $125,000 each in matching funds to a fundraising initiative that was sparked by the news that there would be no show over Lake Union this year: “There’ll be no rockets’ red glare, no bombs bursting in air over Seattle on July Fourth. One Reel, the Seattle nonprofit that has organized the Family 4th at Lake Union for more than two decades, announced that it hasn’t been able to find a title sponsor for this year’s event.” Here’s the official statement: “Microsoft and Starbucks will each provide $125,000 in funds – half of the overall cost of the event – to match contributions raised throughout the community. We encourage other businesses in the greater Seattle community, as they’re able, to consider joining in this effort by contributing online at http://bit.ly/seafourth.”
