Microsoft Sold 40+ Million Windows 8 in First Month

Microsoft during its third-quarter revenue and earnings meeting, announced the CFO transition.

Microsoft CFO Peter Klein will be leaving the company at the end of the current fiscal year, after nearly four years in role and 11 years at the company.

Klein, talked about Windows Blue, without providing official details briefly said, “Looking ahead, we will release the next version of Windows, codenamed Windows Blue, which further advances the vision of Windows 8 as well as responds to customer feedback.”

Klein also mentioned that Microsoft was working with PC OEMs on a new suite of small touch devices powered by Windows. These new devices would launch “in the coming months.”

“These new devices will offer a competitive price point,” he added.

Klein did not go into detail about exactly what the devices would feature, what the screen size would be, or if it was running Windows 8 or Windows RT.

Microsoft didn’t share the updated count of number of Windows 8 licenses sold. However, the company said that they sold more than 40 million copies of Windows 8 the first month it was commercially available.

“The bold bets we made on cloud services are paying off as people increasingly choose Microsoft services including Office 365, Windows Azure, Xbox LIVE, and Skype,” said Steve Ballmer, ceo.

Microsoft Business Division posted $6.32 billion of revenue, an 8% increase from the prior year period. While, the Server & Tools business reported $5.04 billion of revenue, an 11% increase from the prior year period.

Update: Microsoft published two new televison commercials for Office 365 subscription-based productivity suite.

In the first video, the company highlights OneNote and how it can help you keep track of your important notes and events. “When Mom, CEO of the household, is sick, see how Dad comes to the rescue using OneNote,” the video description reads.

And, in the second video, Microsoft showcases PowerPoint and how it can be shown anywhere you want, using SkyDrive. “See how Jimmy uses PowerPoint to share his report on the African gazelle with classmates and family,” the video description reads.
