Microsoft Outlined App Store Approval Policy for Windows 8

Microsoft has outlined, at a high level, approval process for Windows 8 Applications.

The application store is show in the picture below, see the “orange shopping bag” under the IE icon. The store when opened will be a key component of Microsoft’s tablet strategy.

As application developers begin submitting their apps, Microsoft has outlined a six-step approval process for app submissions.

The approval process is not as rigorous as Apple’s, but incorporates a number of safe guards into approval process to keep malware and other malicious code from executing and spreading onto machines through their “Windows Store”.

  1. Pre-processing (1 hour)
  2. Security test (3 hours)
  3. Technical Compliance (6 hours)
  4. Content Compliance (6 hours)
  5. Signing and Publishing (2 hours)
  6. Step 6: Release
