Microsoft Invitated ISV’s for Windows 8 Early Engagement for Anti-Virus

Microsoft is working with antivirus makers in order to ensure that their products will play nice with the next major iteration of the Windows client “Windows 8.”

In this matter, Microsoft recently published a survey on Microsoft connect page, inviting limited number of software vendors in an event to help verify compatibility of third-party Anti-virus filter drivers with the next version of Windows.

Part of the Windows 8 testing process will be an Early Engagement event reserved for antivirus makers.

The Early Engagement Anti-Virus Filter Event page on Microsoft Connect is no longer accessible, but a copy of the survey that AV vendors need to fill is available via Google Cache.

Here’s what the even page reads:

This event is by invitation only. It’s open to a limited number of ISVs selected by Microsoft to help verify compatibility of third-party Anti-virus filter drivers with the next version of Windows. Before proceeding to complete this registration form, please note the following:

  • Your company must receive an invitation email from Microsoft before completing this registration form. If you received an invitation, and your company is not listed under “Company Name” below, please contact [email protected]
  • Due to space constraints, we ask that each company limits its participation to no more than two Developers representing one Anti-virus filter driver
  • This event is open to Anti-virus filter drivers only. Registrations submitted for other types of filter drivers will be declined
  • Microsoft will plan to have a Filter Plugfest before the release of the next version of Windows. At Plugfest, we’ll be able to invite most Filter ISVs, and will be able to support most other classes of File Systems filter drivers
  • Each participating ISV company is gauranteed at least one workstation (consisting one target and 1 debugger machine) for testing. If you have multiple software products that require seperate workstations for interoperability testing, you may submit separate registrations for these products. We’ll try to consider each product for a seperate workstation, however due to limitations in machine availability, we’re unable to gaurantee this
  • If you would like to make changes to your registration after submitting it, don’t make a second submission, rather send an email to: [email protected]
  • If a user submits more than one registration or if more than one submission is made for a single driver, only the first submission will be considered, all other subsequent submissions will be ignored

The software giant indicates that it’ll allow more companies beyond AV vendors to test their products on Windows 8 before the OS is finalized.
