Microsoft “If you’re evaluating new licensing agreement with VMware, talk to us first”

As VMWare prepare for its annual conference, Microsoft put an ad on Aug 31st USA Today, urges: “VMware is asking many of you to sign three-year license agreements for your virtualization projects. If you’re evaluating a new licensing agreement with VMware, talk to us first. You’ve nothing to lose and plenty to gain,” Microsoft’s Brad Anderson writes in an open letter to VMware customers.

Window Azure team responded “We posted this letter because we feel that cloud computing represents the biggest opportunity in decades for organizations to be more agile and cost effective. As we point out in letter, for customers who like efficiencies and cost savings of virtualization, cloud offers additional benefits such as ability to access core services quickly and roll out legacy software and new apps at Internet-scale without having to deal with today’s deployment logistics. In addition to Windows Azure, we also offer cloud computing services, including Microsoft Office, Exchange, SharePoint and SQL.”
