AppNexus, a New York-based company, says its longtime client Microsoft was among the investors participating in its latest round of funding, which totaled $50 million. The deal is notable in part because Microsoft doesn’t take part in many large, VC-style investments. The exact size of Microsoft’s stake in the company wasn’t disclosed. Others participating in the round included existing AppNexus investors Venrock, Kodiak Venture Partners and First Round Capital.
“We view AppNexus as a clear leader in the emerging real-time bidding space,” said Rik van der Kooi, cvp, Microsoft, in the news release announcing the funding. “Deepening our relationship with AppNexus will accelerate the availability of real-time demand via Microsoft Advertising Exchange offering, providing broader access to our ad inventory. We look forward to working with AppNexus to help evolve the display advertising market.”
