Microsoft demos 3D games running on ASUS Windows Phone with XNA Game Studio 4.0

At the Game Developer’s Conference, Microsoft unveiled XNA Game Studio 4.0, part of a comprehensive plan to get app development for Windows Phones on a roll. New to XNA Game Studio 4.0: Integrates with Visual Studio 2010; Dynamic audio output; Microphone input; BasicEffect has four new siblings: SkinnedEffect, EnvironmentMapEffect, DualTextureEffect , AlphaTestEffect. According to Michael Klucher, Microsoft decided to focus on Windows (including Windows 7), Xbox 360 and Windows Phone 7 and leave Zune and Zune HD completely out. With the advent of Zune HD, Microsoft opened a new door for game developers aiming for mobile devices, by introducing 3D gaming capabilities into the media player. Shawn Hargreaves underlined the fact that devs would need to turn to the previous release of XNA Game Studio in order to build content for Zune and Zune HD. Microsoft showed us a pair of 3D games running on its ASUS Windows Phone prototype and built with its brand new XNA Game Studio 4.0:
