Microsoft Cloud Infrastructure Receives Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 (FISMA) Approval

Microsoft announced that its cloud infrastructure has received FISMA Authorization to Operate (ATO).

“The authorization was issued to Microsoft’s Global Foundation Services organization and covers Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure, including: “Exchange Online and SharePoint Online,” which’re currently in the FISMA certification and accreditation process,” stated Gail Thomas-Flynn of Microsoft.

“Our cloud infrastructure supports > 200 cloud services, 1 billion customers, and 20 million businesses in over 76 markets worldwide, including more than 500 state and local governments in 48 out of 50 U.S. states.

Our government customers need to adhere to a number of compliance and regulatory processes. And we’re applying these specialized processes across our cloud infrastructure to even further enhance our Online Services Security & Compliance program. We’ve been designing and testing our cloud apps and infrastructure for over a decade to continually address emerging, internationally-recognized standards,” added Gail.
