Foursquare, location-based social network is reporing that the New York City’s Mayor Bloomberg has mandated April 16th, the fourth sixteenth of the year, is Foursquare Day in NYC.
“Mayor Bloomberg swung by our headquarters earlier today to hand-deliver the proclamation. The Mayor was excited because foursquare is a fast-growing business sprung from his city, and there are over 7,500 other local New York businesses (and a quarter million globally) finding new customers every day on foursquare. We were pumped to give him a foursquare hoodie and foursquare day shirt. If you, like Mayor Bloomberg, want to join the celebration this Saturday, find a foursquare day meetup near you at meetup.com/foursquare. There’re over 1000 parties around the world!,” stated foursquare.
Foursquare, which now has more than 8 million users, is based in New York City, so it’s a hometown favorite.
From the official proclamation:
Whereas: New York City is proud to be the home of both the powerhouse companies and small startups that’re thinking big, creating new jobs, and leading the global economy. Foursquare is one such success story. Started by Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai around Dennis’s kitchen table in the East Village, it now employs more than 60 people in New York and has more than eight million users worldwide. That’s why we’re proud to join Foursquare’s founders and fans in celebrating the first global social media holiday. Today, April 16th-4/16, the fourth sixteenth of the year-is Foursquare Day in New York City and around the world.
