Skype preview for Outlook.com now in the United Kingdom, offers audio and video calls right from your inbox making it easier to stay connected to the people you care about most.
“When Skype is available in your inbox, you’ll see a banner like the one shown here–just click it to get started. You can also open the Messaging pane by clicking the message icon near your picture at the top of Outlook.com. From there, you’ll see a message telling you how to get Skype,” Microsoft explains.
The preview feature will be rolling out in the coming weeks for those in the United States. And, will be available in every Outlook.com inbox in the coming months.
To get started with Skype in Outlook.com, you’ll need to install the Skype web plug-in, which is available for the latest builds of Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox. Afterwards, simply connect to Skype using your existing Microsoft account, (and if you already have a Skype account, you can link it to your Microsoft account). Your Skype contacts will than appear in your contact list, so the next time you get an email from someone, you can call them back with just a click.
Here are some examples of how you can use Skype with Outlook.com:
- Click on a user picture to make a call or send a message.
- Open the Messaging pane and type in your friend’s name.
- Search for your friend in People and send a message or start a call.
