MacBook Air “Cool, light” Specs

Apple CEO Steve Jobs put the rumors to rest by unveiling “world’s thinnest notebook” called the MacBook Air, earlier this week.

Here are a few specs, in case you missed em..

  • 13.3″ screen

  • .76″ thick at its thickest point
  • One USB port
  • Micro-DVI port
  • Headphone Jack
  • Wireless 802.11 A/B/G/ draft-N
  • Multi-touch trackpad
  • iSight Camera

Not bad at all, but it is just a little too much to sacrifice for an everyday machine. Having an x61 I am pretty used to living without an optical drive and it isn’t that big of a deal, but there are a few things I would need:

  • Microphone input jack – for Skype, and VOIP calls while abroad
  • Minimum of 2 USB ports prefer 3 – Cell card, Smart card reader, Zune..etc.
  • Ethernet port – surprisingly enough many hotel still don’t have wireless so I still need this.

Not being able to change the battery sucks, but I can’t remember the last time I took mine off for any reason. So for me not a huge detail. The other thing that kind of sucks is they are charging 100 bucks to add a DVD drive…that should ship with a 1,800 dollar laptop.

The best part about the MacBook AIR is that it will inspire and enable others to accomplish the same or similar form factors, hopefully with the few additions I listed above, then they can ship me a review unit.
