Alongside Google TV-powered Revue, Logitech unveiled a suite of accessories to accompany the set top box, including the TV Cam, that allows you to make and receive high definition (at 720p) video calls with other Revue users, or indeed any of your family and friends with a webcam and a free account with Logitech’s Vid messaging app.
The camera includes a wide angled lens and 5x digital zoom. When you receive a call, you’ll get an onscreen notification — miss a call, and an envelope icon appears on screen as well on camera itself.
HD video is obviously bandwidth intensive, and Logitech are recommending a minimum upload and download speed of 1 Mbps to send and receive video.
The $149.99 camera attaches to the top of TV set via an adjustable clip at the back, and includes two digital, directional microphones to pick up audio around the room — no need for any headsets. It connects into Revue via USB connection. A mute button on the remote will kill the audio for privacy during a call if you wish, but hope the person you’re calling can’t read lips!
