Live Search Webmaster announced the updates and enhancements to its “backlinks tool” to give you access to more data about referring links. Once you know who is linking to you and what pages on your site they are linking to, you can further research those sites to determine the worth of those links, as well as opportunities for promotion. The quality of links is important and knowing who links in to your site can help you determine the value of those links.
If you go to your Webmaster Center account, just click on the Backlinks tab and from there select the filtering options available – whether to filter the results by top-level domain, subdomain or subfolder.
Here’re some features:
- You can check the sites from the target region that are linking.
- You can check the “popularity, performance and traffic of your site on social media” sites, such as digg, technorati or reddit. By filtering the Backlinks using digg.com, you’ll get the number of links to your site coming from Digg.
- Looking deeper at your backlinks can provide insight on whether your content is being linked to by well-respected institutions in your industry, or if you need to work on promoting your site better or improving your content.
- You can take the data offline into a CSV (comma-separated values) file that you can open in Excel or some type of database for analysis and collaboration with a client, marketing or engineering partner.
