LinkedIn Groups facelifts, adds ‘Likes, Follows’ and more features

LinkedIn adding new functionality to its Groups features:

  • Improved look & feel made the conversations within groups similar to face-to-face professional interactions by removing wall between original remarks and off-site content such as shared news articles. Rich link-sharing is now available within context of groups. You can also easily link to individual profile pictures that makes experience more personal. It also brings to your finger tips profile information of professional participating in that discussion.
  • It’s now easy to browse through latest updates of discussion and make comments quickly. You can roll over images of last three participants on any thread to see comment previews and click their profile pictures to jump to segment of conversation. Alternatively, you can comment in line without drilling down into whole discussion. If you’re new to thread, clicking discussion headline or “See all comments” link take you to beginning of discussion.
  • A key part of new groups experience is the democratization of discussions, as group members actively curate the conversations seen by group. This feature allows users to quickly peruse new content and vote either by “liking” or commenting on discussions they deem worthy of group’s attention. Users who prefer to see all discussions sorted chronologically can click “See all new discussions” link on homepage.In a live discussion, nodding fuels a conversation and new “Like” button is a simple way to do this virtually. You can also see who has liked a conversation. “More” drop-down in carousel also makes it easy to flag new items as a job or as inappropriate for the group.
  • It’s now easier for you to receive email updates from select members of the group make a contribution (like or comment) within the group. This’s easily accomplished by clicking through “Start following” icon below each profile photo in any group thread on groups homepage.
  • new groups interface introduces an easy way to discover participants who truly drive activity of the group’s discussions each week by highlighting them as “top influencers”.
