iTunes: “Song Previews Now 90 Seconds” – Apple Hires Warner Music Group’s Legal Head – Steve Jobs Promises iTunes LP/Extras Support for Apple TV

Apple said that it’ll be extending “iTunes song previews from 30 to 90 seconds” in an upcoming update to the iTunes store. The news comes from Symphonic Distribution who received an Apple e-mail, to music labels, detailing the change. If the song in question is shorter than two and a half minutes in length, the preview will remain at 30 seconds.

Note; that Apple only specifically mentions the change happening for the U.S. iTunes store for the time being.

In other iTune news, Apple’s said to introduce support for iTunes LP and iTunes Extras formated content on the new Apple TV. A note from Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, explains.

“Where are iTunes Extras and iTunes LP gone? I’ve purposely been buying content with those features just for my Apple TVs. And now the features are unusable on my new box?! Is there an update coming to fix this?”

Finally, Apple has lured Warner Music Group’s head of digital legal affairs, Elliot Peters, who’ll become Apple’s corporate attorney director for iTunes Europe and Internet services. His job will be to manage the European legal team for iTunes and MobileMe service.
