Apple’s iTunes App Store Rewind 2011 page posted on December 8th, highlighting the best selling and performing apps, games, movies, and music, most popular content in the App Store this year.
Top places for sales are separate from voted categories like Game of the Year, App of the Year, and more classic categories for media usually categorized as such, like Best Comedy, Best Romance, and Best Breakout Comedy.
The section collates all of these top lists in one easy to browse section of the iTunes App Store.
The iPhone app of the year was Burbn’s photo sharing app Instagram, while the iPhone game of the year honor went to Tiny Tower. In iPad, Snapseed ranked top, with Dead Space for iPad coming in as its favorite game.
In the music category, Adele garnered the top spot for her album 21 and The Foo Fighters Wasting Light is album of the year. The song of the year was Foster the People’s school shooting lament Pumped Up Kicks. Breakthrough artist went to Nicki Minaj.
